Hi all,

I've scoured the forum trying to troubleshoot this problem on my own but to no avail.

I've done all the requirements:

I've gone to the options folder and browsed to the fsx home directory folder which is
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\MICROSOFT GAMES\MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR X

I then click the settings tab and save.
I then close fsbuild and restart.

I then build my flight plan (EDDF-EHAM) and go to the Export To tab and click the FS2004/FSX option and then the PMDG option. I click build and I get this error:

Unable to create FS2000 file C:\Users\Owner\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files\EDDF-EHAM.PLN
Created PMDG 737NG File C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\MICROSOFT GAMES\MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR X\PMDG\FLIGHTPLANS\EDDFEHAM.rte

As you can see, the flightplan is exporting to the pmdg folder, but not to fsx.
I then went to the FS Build .cfg folder and added the fs2004 pln line to as instructed by several posts in this forum regarding this problem. Here is what my .cfg looks like afterward:

[FSBUILD]
AUTOREFRESH_DELAY=1
MAGYEAR=2002
AIRCRAFT=B747-400 PMDG
SBPC_SERVER=www.vatsim.net
ROUTELINE=1
NATRAKURL=www.natroutes.glideslope.de/html/nats.php3

[MS-FLIGHTSIMULATOR]

[FLY!]

[PS1]

[X-PLANE]

[STARTUP]
CLEARMAP_BEFORE_BUILD
DISPRTEWPTSONMAP
AUTOREFRESH_ON

I then saved these settings on the notepad and tried to export again, but I got the same message. I restarted fsbuild and tried to export again, I got teh same message. I tried all of those steps several times only to run into the same error message.
I even tried changing the export directory for fs2004/fsx to the flightplan folder under documents directly, and of course it didn't like that either.

I'm stuck and could use some direction. Thanks in advance.

Btw, I am running FSBUILD 2.4.0.18 and I've updated the navdata in both FSBUILD and PMDG to AIRAC cylcle 1203.

"C:\Users\Owner\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files" should read "C:\Users\(your username)\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files" - you need to put your username in place of the parentheses. You also must run FSBuild from the right click "run as administrator"... however, before you do go to "Documents\My Documents and make sure that the "Flight Simulator X Files" directory exists - if it doesn't then create it.

My username is Owner...I never changed it from the default setting when I purchased the comp. I did run FSBUILD as administrator. And the "flight simulator x files" directory exists. No success.

Aha! Fooled me... do you have UAC turned off on the system? If you don't then turn it off (lowest setting) and reboot. Looking over your fsbuild2.cfg file I see some out of date settings - I suggest you rename the existing file and let fsbuild create a new one; then set your options and save them again. The export path to FS2004/FSX is automatic - you don't need the path variable you set.

As an example, my config has most of the common variables set as follows:

[FSBUILD]
AUTOREFRESH_DELAY=1
MAGYEAR=2005
AIRCRAFT=A319-111 w/ CFM56-5B5/P
SBPC_SERVER=www.vatsim.net
ROUTELINE=1
AUTOGEN_RTE_LIMIT=300
NATRAKURL=www.fsbuild.com/nat/pilotweb.nas.faa.gov/common/nat.html
NAVCHKDUPDIST=100
WEATHERPROG=ACTIVESKY

[MS-FLIGHTSIMULATOR]
FS_HOME=C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\MICROSOFT GAMES\MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR X
ACTIVESKY=C:\Users\Scott\AppData\Roaming\HiFi\AS2012\Weather

[FLY!]

[PS1]

[X-PLANE]

[STARTUP]
STEP_CLIMB
TOC_TOD
INCL_CROSSING_ALTS
CLEARMAP_BEFORE_BUILD
DISPRTEWPTSONMAP
WINDS_ALOFT
RVSM_FL
F1ATR72
FS2000_GPS
FSX_GPS
IFLY_737
LDS767
LAGOMD80
PMDG737NG
QW757
FTB737
FTERJ
DAF100
GOOGLEMAPS
AUTOREFRESH_ON
LOADNATS
LOADPATCOSWNATS

As you can see, I export to more planes than you do, have FS9 and FSX, and have AS2012 as a weather program, but the other options are common to all...

Yeah, I probably should rename the username from owner...I just jumped straight to flight simulator once I purchased it. :)

First, thanks for your assistance, I really appreciate you taking the time to help me resolve this issue.

Second, I'm not quite sure what UAC is. User Account Control? Where do I got to check to see if it's on or off?

Yes, I notice your fsbuild configurations are more up to date and detailed. How do i update my configurations? For instance, your magyear is 2005 and mine is 2002. What does magyear mean?

You suggested I rename the existing file...which file did you mean? fsbuild? Flight Simulator X Files?

You wrote: "The export path to FS2004/FSX is automatic - you don't need the path variable you set." I'm not quite sure what you're referring to here.

Sorry for all the questions and requests for clarifications...it's just that I've been in and out of so many folders and files trying to troubleshoot this, that I've confused my self and I'm not quite sure what's what.

UAC is User Account Control - click the desktop and press F1 for Help, type in UAC and take a look at the first article in the list; you'll see a link to go to the control panel app that controls it - move the slider all the way to the bottom and reboot your machine. That will turn it off. Always run FSBuild from the right click "run as administrator" anyway.

To update your configuration, rename the fsbuild2.cfg file to fsbuild2.xxx and then run FSBuild to create a new one. Then go to Options|Settings and set the FS_Home path and check the boxes in the tree on the left of the screen for the options you want and press the Save button. Close FSBuild and look at your new fsbuild2.cfg file in notepad - it should begin to look similar to mine. You can just copy the appropriate entries from mine for NATRAKURL (the path is new), and make sure FSX_GPS and PMDG737NG (at least) are in the [STARTUP] section. The options I have set are pretty typical for a good running app - copy the ones you want. If you are running AS2012 or ASE for weather you'll need the ACTIVESKY variable - just copy mine and if you use ASE change "AS2012" to "ASE" and your user name.

FSBuild knows where the folders are for FSX (C:\Users\Owner\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files) are without you setting anything - that's what I meant when I said you don't need the path variable in your file as long as FSX_GPS is in the [STARTUP] section. The "C:\Users\Owner\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files" folder should have been created when you installed FSX - if it wasn't, you must create it by hand.

I don't know which one of your recommendations deserves the credit, but I did all the steps you outlined, and now it works!

2 questions:
1) Can I reset my UAC to the previous setting now and if I can't, is my comp more exposed to security threats?

2) Does Activesky weather come with FSBUILD? I have REX weather installed but I just use it for textures, I don't run the weather engine; I use FSX real weather settings instead. Is Activesky a preferred weather engine for FSX and FSBUILD and if so, how do I get it?

Again, thanks for your help.

"More" is such an interesting word... you are no more exposed than you were in WinXP or Vista. I have turned UAC off on all my systems with no extra threats encountered. UAC is overkill in my opinion and the source of continuing problems for flightsimmers. My advice is to make sure that you have a good anti-virus program (Microsoft Security Essentials is excellent and free) and leave UAC off.

Active Sky is the best weather program available, in my opinion, and I've used many different versions over the years. Since you already have REX for textures I would recommend ASE which is available from HiFi Technologies at http://www.hifitechinc.com/ ...
