Yes, the pilot is still responsible for speed control. ISG1 would adjust the
descent rate to stay on the calculated FPA based on the current peed.
So the faster the speed above higher the descent rate needed to stay on the FPA.

The default max rate of climb descent is 3000 fpm.
The VS limit can be set higher in the (aircraft_name).cfg file if you wish
the max ROC/ROD steeper than the default. Or the FPA itself could be made steeper than the default 3.0 degrees if you wish.
