Hello,

When I build flightplans in FSBuild, the program always returns a flightplan that I don't have any good use for, because it does not end or start the flightplan at a point where a SID or STAR ends or begins. Moreover, it seems to ignore SID/STAR completely. I did ask the program to exclude SID and STAR when building the flightplan, simply because I have no idea, when making the flightplan, what SID or STAR I'll end up using and thus I might have a flightplan that is completely unusable. Is there perhaps a way to have it include SID/STAR ending and starting waypoints, but not have it include the SID and STAR itself?

Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong? Or perhaps what it is that I misunderstand?

Could you give an example of what you are doing?
What it should be and what it actually is.

I was trying to create a flightplan from LOWW to EHAM. I checked "Exclude SID/STAR". After setting the aircraft type and cruise level, I pressed "Autogenerate", after which I got a flight plan that went from some waypoint to another, but none of these waypoint where waypoints where a SID ended or a STAR started. (If I remember correctly, the plan ended at PAMPUS, while I would have liked it to end at NOKRU, where several STARs also start).

I then unchecked "Exclude SID/STAR" and entered the runways I was probably going to use. Of course, I had no idea what the winds would be, so choosing these runways was a completely arbitrary thing to do. I then pressed "Autogenerate", and I got a flightplan that included the SID and the STAR. It also included the waypoint at which the SID ended and the STAR started, which is good. In theory I could then delete the specific SID and STAR in the flightplan and later select the correct ones. However, that seems like more steps needed to be taken than should be required.

I have been using vroute previously, but I wanted something more versatile, for vroute offers only a selection of a wide range of possible flightplans. However, vroute does always seem to supply flightplans that start where a SID ends and end where a STAR starts, which is how I want it to be. The problem is that my charts (by Navigraph) only include the waypoints where a SID ends or a STAR starts and it does not go beyond such points, so if the FSBuilds flightplan ends or starts at a waypoint that is not on the Navigraph chart, then I practically have no real way of knowing what SID or STAR I should be using. The map of FS2004 is, as you might expect, completely useless for this purpose because of the AIRAC being so agonizingly outdated.

Use the wildcard feature to force the autogenerator to use a SID/STAR enpoint.

Example

KJFK DPK * NOKRU EHAM

That would force the autogenerator to build the route only between DPK and NORKU. The rest of the route outside of the '*' STAR would remain as entered.

You can use multiple '*' to build multiple route segments as well like if you
want it to build a route around a NAT Track.

See this page for more details.

http://fsbuild.com/features/autogen.htm

I recommend also selecting the exclude preferred ARR/DEP's menu item as the
preferred routes in the DB are pretty old now.

Regards.
Ernie.
