Why are things so complicated. If I get freeaware< I expect to have to tweak thigs a lot. Having piad money, why am I having so many problems with this software?

I purchased this software today!

My two previos, unresolved questions are..
1. Does not support the Wilco/Feelethere Airbus, probably the most commonly paid for airbus in FS!
2. Will not connect to Vatsim, I get an error message!

And now in an attemmpt to resolve 1 and 2 I installed the http://www.fsbuild.com/dl/Fsbuild24018_Upd.exe update only to find that the program no longer runs. No worse than that... there is no .exe file to start the program!

The uninstall .exe was there and so I have clicked on that and uninstalled it completly.

Sorry not the best start to something that no doubt is good software, but having shelled out good money, I am truely frustrated to the point of being angry that it does not do as advertised.

Just tried it all a second time. Same problem.

Truely Peed off, and very angr to say the least. I feel as though I have been conned through clever advertising.

Fair cop, I probably have been a bit over the top in my comments but I am very, very frustrated at not being able to use something that I feel should work out of the box. I appologies for airing it here, but really would like it to work.

Step by step the actions I have taken

Once again I have fully uninstalled FSBuild as it left the .exe behind for me to do that.
I cleaned my system, including the registry with AVG tuner and rebootes the whole box to get rid of any memory leaks that may be sitting in the ROM.
I reinstalled the version I downloaded today from Sim Market FSBuildSetup23.exe
I then ran FSBuild to register it and set the default paths. At this point I have no connection to Vatsim
I then installed FSBuildUpdate23.exe again supplied by SimMarket
Once again ran it up, and no connection to Vatsim
I then installed the Fsbuild24018 - I installed it where FSBuild installed C:\Program Files (x86)\FSBuild
After this step, the fsbuild.exe file is deleted from the drive and it cannot be started.
I have not seen any reference to the Feelethere A320 in any of the software loads I have tried.

I have done this process three times now, ech time clering my system and the buffers.

I have put the error message in the other thread, but for fullness here it is.

My styetm details are:-

Edited and Removed.......

I did PM you a copy of the wilco airbus route earlier today.

If you require any further info please ask. I look forward to your solution soonest.

I know the start .exe is missing becasue:

When I install the 2.3 version and update 2.3 they place a shortcut to the .exe (whatever it is called) on the desktop that starts FSBuild. After I run the 2.4 intstaller this shortcut icon is changed to one of no know file type, and when clicked it reports that the file is missing.

Windows message is:

When I browse into the FSbuild folder the only .exe file is the uninstall.exe. Difficult to show all the files but here is what now exists in the FSBuild folder

No error messages are displayed during the install.

I downloaded and extracted the installer to a folder on my drive from where I ran the installer for 24018. When run it prompts me to set the file location to the root of FSBuild. I do this each time, other than that it is a straight install with no other propts. I assume this is what you mean by running the software from the folder it was installed in.

I hope I do not have to place the installer inside the FSBuild folder, or do I? There is no reference to this step if that is required, and why would it ask for FSBuils root location?

As for the shotcut, well as per the image above the shortcut created by 2.3 no longer works.

Sorry.

Hope the images help.

Hi Ernie

Okay did all that.

Alas it still removes the file, not all the files as you say, as you can see from the picture of the folder I sent only the .exe fiole to start FSBuild is missing (I believe as I do not know what files should reside in the folder). It is only this ONE file that seems to be missing, of course it is the one needed to start the program.

It is there all the time, that is until the 2.4 installer has been run, and then it goes.

Is the 2.4 installer trying to rename this file per chance and getting itself lost along the way?? After all if we have 2.4 on the system, it is logical to overwrite 2.3 exe (or even remove it completely to stop users starting the wrong version). Why indeed would it be left behind after an upgrade is probably the better question, removing it makes logical sense to me, but hey I am not a script writer.

When you did the update to 2.4 was the exe to start 2.3 left behind? I doubt it was.

I am left with no option to run the uninstaller, before starting afresh with 2.3 from the begining as the files are left hanging in the registry.

So once again, If I may, the steps I have taken post your last messge.

1. Ran the uninstaller to get back to where we started. No FSBuild on my PC
2. Installed 2.3 from SimMarket - All is good, less the bits that fail? But at least it runs.
3. Installed the 2.3 Update from SimMarket- Again, all is good less the other issues, but once again it still runs.
4. Installed 2.4 and we loose the start file to start FSBuild. And so I cannot even run it up.

If needed I can video all of these steps but that will take a bit of doing, and will be a large file to send over. But it will show exactly what heppens.

Sorry not been of much help, but I am trying to be.

Once again, I will do all the steps. As requested this time I will remove the uninstaller before running the 2.4 update. I willas you ask install the 2.4 update into a temp folder and copy all the files from there into the FSBuild folder. I assume you wish me to overwrite files that already exist?

I do not however believe it to be the uninstaller, causing the issue. The uninstaller provides promts and permission to continue withe the uninstall, and so I do not believe it is being used. The only time it ghets used is by me starting it, after the 2.4 install has failed, simply becuase it is the only way to get FSBuild back off my system ready to try again.

I do believe the installer being used is trying to amend FSBuid23.exe and rename it to FSBuild24.exe and this is where it fails.

Hi Ernie

I supect that I am the first of your beta testers to try and install your update 2.4 onto a windows PC with the version I have.

Fortunatly I am an IT chap with a couple of Microsofts qualifications to brag about, but hey that's not for this forum. I have spent the last few days looking at this, with huge frustration and anger having spent money on a product that should just install and work! I am pleased to say that at last I have found the solution, and it is not my PC.

Your installer will not work as an updater on any PC which has the latest microsoft software without some added steps thrown in. Microsoft have included many security measures to prevent exe files being rewritten in order to prevent virus attacks. In the case of your update 2.4, the FSBuild2.exe is replaced by a new FSBuild2.exe, and microsoft have prevented this as it is seen as a hack at the system, especially from software that has no microsoft digital signature! It has taken time to resolve but I now have the solution to this.

Apart from that may I be bold and if I may politly suggest getting a formal electronic digital signature for your software from Microsoft, it will stop that really annoying (Bright Red) message 'are you sure you want to install software from an unrecognised source' that the lastest Microsoft OS generates!

Hope I have not burnt any bridges, many thanks for your support, it has been great. My appologies for flying off the handle some, it is a real shame that it does not work as advertised on the latest MS OS.

All the best

Leslie
